Wraz z rosnącą liczbą urządzeń podłączonych do Internetu ataki DDoS stają się coraz silniejsze, a prędkość łączy sięga nawet 100 Gbit/s, co skraca czas dostępny na obsługę pojedynczego pakietu danych. System Linux posiada uniwersalny stos sieciowy, który jest zbyt wolny, aby obsłużyć duże natężenie pakietów. Aby skutecznie łagodzić ataki DDoS, potrzebne jest inne rozwiązanie. W tym celu powszechnie stosuje się tak zwane techniki omijania jądra, takie jak framework DPDK. Niedawno (od wersji Linux 4.8) pojawiła się nowa alternatywa, która nie omija jądra, o nazwie XDP. W niniejszym artykule oceniono wydajność XDP na sprzęcie Intel i porównano ją z DPDK przy obciążeniu odpowiednim do przypadku użycia łagodzenia ataków DDoS.
