Com o tempo, esses poemas foram transcritos em folhetos e pendurados em cordéis para venda, daí o nome 'literatura de cordel'.Este artigo examina a evolução e a importância da literatura de cordel, destacando sua influência nas tradições culturais do Brasil. Analisa-se a utilização da literatura de cordel, especificamente através de poemas do autor Patativa do Assaré, em uma escola quilombola da capital paraibana, João Pessoa. Considera-se sua estrutura poética característica, que muitas vezes inclui rimas e métricas específicas, além da temática diversificada que abrange temas sociais e políticos. A literatura de cordel desempenha um papel vital na preservação da identidade cultural brasileira, transmitindo tradições e valores de geração em geração.
