A leitura dos documentos dos arquivos do DEOPS/SP, abertos ao público, em 1994, traz à tona um novo instrumental para a análise do papel da delação, na legitimação das práticas arbitrárias desenvolvidas pela Delegacia e permite incrementar a avaliação da importância do Serviço Reservado, na repressão dos movimentos considerados de risco para a ordem social. Esses documentos mostram que a infiltração de agentes nas organizações vigiadas foi uma tática de investigação e intimidação amplamente utilizada.O autor aborda a atuação desses agentes duplos, nas estratégias de contenção desencadeadas sobre o movimento operário durante a Era Vargas, tendo como fontes para análise os documentos elaborados pela polícia política, hoje sob a guarda do Arquivo do Estado de São Paulo. Ao estudar as motivações da opção pela colaboração com a polícia, as formas de cooptação e a identidade dos delatores, o autor traça o perfil profissional dos agentes reservados, ajudando a compreender essa face autoritária de nossa História recente.
