Esse livro conta a história do Mestre Raimundo Irineu Serra e da religião fundada - o Santo Daime - que se desenvolveu no estado do Acre (Brasil) a partir da década de 1930 e que foi a primeira religião a fazer o uso cristão da bebida psicoativa ayahuasca onde a bebida é considerada um sacramento eucarístico. O livro é fruto de uma pesquisa de doutorado em História realizada pela Profa. Isabela Oliveira na Universidade de Brasília (UnB) entre os anos 2002 a 2007. A reconstituição da história de vida do Mestre Irineu e da religião foi feita a partir dos relatos orais dos participantes mais antigos da religião à época da pesquisa e por meio de diversos documentos científicos e registros históricos sobre a religião e o uso ritual de psicodélicos. Um livro para quem se interessa sobre a ayahuasca, o uso ritual de psicodélicos e, de maneira ampla, por conhecer a história de religiões cristãs.
