O mártir e académico El-Hadj Ali Mekki é considerado um dos mártires da gloriosa revolução argelina, que custou a vida a um milhão e meio de mártires. Estudou, que Deus guarde a sua alma, na zaouïa (escola corânica) do Ouled Cheikh Boudouad (Daoud Eddine), depois foi para a zaouïa do Sheikh Ben Ali Cherif em Djebel 'Chlatha', em Akbou, e em seguida para a do Sheikh Mohamed Abou-El-kacem (El-Hamel) para estudar direito islâmico (jurisprudência) e teologia (monoteísmo). Obteve um diploma de jurista especializado em jurisprudência e monoteísmo, nomeadamente em matéria de sucessões e obrigações religiosas, e trabalhou depois como empregado no Dar Ouled Sidi Sheikh Ben El Nadhir (Bousaada). Exerceu também durante muito tempo a atividade de professor e apelou à construção de escolas, algumas das quais foram construídas com os seus fundos pessoais. Viajou por muitas regiões do país e completou a peregrinação em 1935. Durante a sua viagem, conheceu eminentes académicos como Zaïm El-Husseini.
