As representações mediáticas dos africanos e dos afro-descendentes continuam a ser largamente marcadas por estereótipos negativos. Dão forma a imaginários colectivos que são tendenciosos e têm uma profunda influência na forma como nos percepcionamos a nós próprios e aos outros. Este artigo analisa o impacto psicológico destas representações, baseando-se em vários estudos de psicologia social, comunicação e ciências cognitivas.Explorando o impacto destas representações na construção de imaginários colectivos, o artigo salienta a necessidade urgente de renovar a imagem da população negra através de narrativas mais autênticas e inclusivas. O objetivo é incentivar mudanças estruturais na indústria dos meios de comunicação social para promover uma representação mais justa e equitativa dos africanos e afrodescendentes.
