Desde então, a ONU tem levado a cabo várias missões em todo o mundo, na Ásia, América e África.Os conflitos internacionais que fazem atualmente as manchetes dos jornais têm um impacto considerável nos Estados africanos e ocidentais, nomeadamente em termos económicos e sociais. Em África, e em particular na região dos Grandes Lagos, os conflitos armados que aí grassam não só causam danos humanos, como também atrasam o crescimento económico destes países.
