O foco principal da parte teórica deste livro é a análise das principais teorias e conceitos relativos à RSE, ao controlo ecológico e à GRI como partes integrantes da RSE. Na parte empírica do trabalho, são avaliados exemplos práticos de empresas. É feita uma análise de como as empresas multinacionais modernas lidam com as diretrizes e conceitos da GRI, como as empresas integram os relatórios de sustentabilidade e o controlo verde nos seus departamentos de controlo. Foram realizadas entrevistas com representantes de seis empresas e cada entrevista é avaliada de acordo com os resultados. As entrevistas mostram o grau de familiaridade das empresas com a GRI, se as empresas implementam relatórios de sustentabilidade na sua atividade comercial e se o controlo verde é aplicado nos departamentos de controlo das empresas analisadas.
