O principal objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar e avaliar o impacto da corrupção nas receitas fiscais, utilizando abordagens de dados de painel estáticas e dinâmicas. Em primeiro lugar, analisamos o impacto da corrupção no total das receitas fiscais de 63 países emergentes e em desenvolvimento durante o período 1996-2016. Os nossos resultados sugerem que o impacto é significativamente negativo nas receitas fiscais totais em percentagem do PIB. Em segundo lugar, estudamos os efeitos da corrupção nos impostos diretos/PIB e nos impostos indirectos/PIB. As estimativas revelam que os impostos diretos são mais afectados pela corrupção do que os impostos indirectos. Este facto sugere que as reformas fiscais destinadas a aumentar as receitas fiscais poderiam centrar-se em alterações nos impostos indirectos e que os esforços para combater a corrupção na cobrança de impostos deveriam centrar-se nos impostos diretos.
