O impacto da ajuda internacional e da intervenção dos doadores continua a ser altamente complexo e controverso em muitas áreas afetadas por conflitos. No caso da Palestina, a literatura sobre ajuda e desenvolvimento tende a considerar a ajuda humanitária como parte da solução para a crise persistente e como um dos recursos mais importantes com potencial para melhorar as condições de pobreza e carência. Após a assinatura do acordo de declaração de princípios entre a OLP e o governo israelita em setembro de 1993, os países doadores desenvolveram um mecanismo para financiar a ANP, a fim de lidar com a situação e promover as condições de vida do povo palestino, gerando uma sensação e uma crença generalizada de que há uma melhoria na vida quotidiana do povo palestino devido ao envolvimento no processo de paz. O principal objetivo deste livro é identificar o impacto da ajuda internacional na promoção do desenvolvimento económico nos territórios palestinianos ocupados.
