O presente livro teve como objetivo investigar o efeito da instrução de estratégias de memória e compensação na compreensão de leitura de estudantes iranianos de nível intermediário de inglês como língua estrangeira. O presente estudo complementa outros, acompanhando 53 alunos de um instituto, e fornece outra via para examinar a situação da aprendizagem de línguas no Irão. Para medir a capacidade de compreensão de leitura dos alunos antes e depois da intervenção, a parte de leitura do teste TOEFL foi aplicada a eles como pré e pós-teste do estudo. A análise dos resultados do estudo revelou que os participantes do grupo experimental que receberam instrução explícita sobre estratégias adquiriram melhor consciência e uso de suas estratégias durante a leitura, o que levou a um aumento na compreensão de leitura da L2 em comparação com o grupo de controlo. Na verdade, eles superaram o grupo de controlo.
