O conceito de pessoa está indissociável do cristianismo e da doutrina e filosofia social cristã. Muito antes da primeira formulação deste princípio, a visão cristã do homem foi o impulsionador da tentativa de reformas sociais pacíficas. Numa época em que os problemas sociais representavam um problema social sem precedentes, pessoas motivadas pelo cristianismo criaram um conceito único. Apesar ou precisamente devido à sua profundidade teórica e fundamentação, este conceito é impressionantemente pragmático, prático e empiricamente verificável em qualquer momento. No entanto, a evolução histórica do uso do termo pessoa mostra claramente quão diferentes eram e continuam a ser as suas interpretações e utilizações. Este termo certamente ainda não chegou ao fim da sua evolução semântica. Pois enquanto existirem pessoas e, consequentemente, sociedade, ambas estarão em constante mudança e, com elas, o conceito de pessoa.
