В связи с ростом числа госпитальных инфекций, устойчивостью патогенных микроорганизмов и отсутствием лекарств для борьбы с ними и подавления их роста ведется поиск новых альтернатив для борьбы с ними. К ним относятся инфекции мочевыводящих путей, которые входят в число четырех наиболее распространенных типов госпитальных инфекций, вызываемых Candida albicans, представляющих растущую угрозу для здоровья человека, вызывая нозокомиальные инфекции и кандидемию, которая может привести к смерти. Способность Candida albicans образовывать биопленки на инертных поверхностях, таких как мочевые катетеры, является причиной повышения ее патогенности и возникновения устойчивости к противогрибковым препаратам. Поэтому данное исследование демонстрирует новые альтернативы для борьбы с этими устойчивыми микроорганизмами, используя масло пальмарозы (Cymbopogon martini), которое показало значительные результаты, такие как его антибиопленочная и противогрибковая активность против Candida albicans в мочевых катетерах.
