Данная исследовательская работа, проведенная в 2016-2017 годах, была направлена на изучение сексуального поведения и его детерминант среди девочек-подростков в возрасте 10-19 лет, проживающих в штате Тамилнад. Изучение распространенности добрачного сексуального поведения и их фоновых характеристик тесно связано, поэтому результаты показали, что значительный процент девочек-подростков занимается добрачным сексом независимо от их фоновых характеристик. Значительное большинство опрошенных девочек-подростков имели опыт влюбленности (66,2 %), причем в большинстве случаев девушкам делали предложение мальчики, и те же девочки также предлагали свою любовь мальчикам. Добрачный опыт больше в возрасте 16-17 лет и немного больше в 14-15 лет. Большинство сексуальных контактов у девушек были взаимными, происходили в доме респондента/первого партнера, они наслаждались добрачным сексом, таким как объятия, поцелуи и половые акты, и никогда не использовали никаких методов контрацепции. Основными факторами, определяющими сексуальное поведение, были доход, профессия, образование, семья, общество и ситуация на рабочем месте. Последствиями были обильные вагинальные выделения, выделения с кислым запахом, соматические жалобы, тревожность/депрессия.
