Толчком к созданию книги послужило движение, получившее название культура отмены, требующее отрицания, запрещения, низвержения едва ли не всего, что создано в нашей стране, то есть перечёркивания или переписывания истории Соединённых Штатов. Книга озаглавлена по названию первого очерка, рассказывающего о том, что сегодня практически отменено, - о чёрных американцах, владевших чёрными рабами. Таковых были тысячи. По переписи 1850 года, 3726 свободным темнокожим принадлежали 12 907 рабов. Читателей книги ждёт много подобных открытий.
