Rozpoznanie w mieście przeszłości pochodzenia naszej historii umożliwiło człowiekowi, jako jednostce lub zbiorowości, utrzymanie przy życiu poczucia przynależności do środowiska, które zamieszkuje.Ta specyfika pamięci doprowadziła do zbadania nieobecnej architektury historycznego centrum miasta Pelotas (RS) w Brazylii. Poprzez zapisy ikonograficzne i pisemne, badanie to uratowało brakujące dziedzictwo architektoniczne w historycznym centrum Pelotas, wskazując jego konstruktywne zamienniki i promując rekonstrukcję danych urbanistycznych miasta. Konstrukcja tej zbudowanej pamięci skoncentrowała się na budynkach wokół Praça Coronel Pedro Osório i przyjęła rok 1835, datę podniesienia gminy do kategorii miasta, jako punkt orientacyjny. Rozwój tej konstruktywnej rekonstrukcji doprowadził do przygotowania Inwentarza wiedzy o nieistniejącej architekturze historycznego centrum Pelotas, który stanowi drugi tom tej książki. Narzędzie to umożliwiło identyfikację czterech odrębnych okresów. To właśnie na podstawie wyznaczenia tych czterech okresów można było opisać zbudowaną historię miasta Pelotas.
