This is the first part of a two part revision of the systematics and biology of the New World Carpenter ants in the genus Camponotus, subgenus Myrmaphaenus. It includes some of the most common and widely distributed species of ants, mostly from the tropical areas of the Americas. It includes illustrated identification keys, colored photographs of the species, distribution maps and comparisons of the different species with other similar species. The book is designed for the non-specialist to be able to identify ants and be able to determine what is known of the biology and distributions.
