A naturalização dos apátridas insere-se no problema mais vasto da apatridia, que tem vindo a merecer cada vez mais atenção. No entanto, a questão da naturalização facilitada dos apátridas, proposta como uma das medidas para reduzir a apatridia, continua a ser muito ignorada. Este livro procura identificar as obrigações internacionais dos Estados relativamente à atribuição da nacionalidade através da naturalização e formular normas internacionais e europeias para facilitar o acesso dos apátridas à cidadania. À luz destas normas, os regimes nacionais de três Estados - Estónia, Hungria e Eslováquia - são avaliados e comparados entre si. O estudo comparativo centra-se, em especial, na avaliação dos requisitos materiais (residência, língua e outros requisitos de integração, bom carácter, requisitos de recursos económicos, lealdade para com o Estado e segurança) e dos aspectos processuais da naturalização (pedido, procedimentos), bem como noutras áreas de preocupação que surgem quando se trata de facilitar o acesso à cidadania. Com base no estudo comparativo, são elaboradas recomendações gerais.
