Este livro apresenta uma breve história dos quadrinhos, desde o seu surgimento, com as tiras de jornais e revistas, até os dias atuais. Além disso, a autora também se propôs a investigar como o aluno dos anos finais do ensino fundamental lê tiras cômicas: se ele acessa seu conhecimento prévio; se ele lê a imagem tal qual lê os balões; se ele reconhece pressupostos e implícitos como elementos que desvendam o humor da tirinha. Para isso, passeamos pelas principais características das tirinhas e pelos estudos da Linguística Textual. Como o material contido no livro volta-se à investigação com alunos do ensino fundamental, também há uma pequena revisão dos documentos oficiais da educação no Brasil, como os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais e a Base Nacional Comum Curricular, no que diz respeito ao trabalho com textos multimodais e ao trabalho com pressupostos e implícitos. 10
