Die sich verschlechternde Wasserqualität in Indien erfordert Technologien zur Vermeidung von Umweltverschmutzung. Die strikte Umsetzung der Minimierung von Industrieabfällen ist ebenfalls das Gebot der Stunde. Als fortschrittliche Oxidationsprozesse (AOPs) werden Prozesse definiert, bei denen leistungsstarke, aber relativ nicht selektive Hydroxylradikale in ausreichender Menge erzeugt und eingesetzt werden, um den Großteil der im Abwasser vorhandenen komplexen Chemikalien oxidieren zu können. Hydroxyl-Radikale (OH.) haben das höchste Oxidationspotenzial (Oxidationspotenzial, E0: 2,8 eV gegenüber der Normalwasserstoffelektrode (NHE) nach dem Fluor-Radikal. Fluor, das stärkste Oxidationsmittel (Oxidationspotenzial, E0: 3,06 V), kann aufgrund seiner hohen Toxizität nicht für die Abwasserbehandlung verwendet werden. Aus diesen Gründen hat die Erzeugung von Hydroxyl-Radikalen, einschließlich AOPs, die Aufmerksamkeit der meisten Wissenschaftler und Technologieentwickler auf sich gezogen. Die heterogene Photokatalyse, die unter natürlichen Witterungsbedingungen und bei Sonneneinstrahlung angewendet wird, zeigt vielversprechende Abbauleistungen. Dieses Buch befasst sich schwerpunktmäßig mit der Nutzung von Sonnenlicht für den Abbau von Farbstoffen mithilfe von Nanophotokatalysatoren.
