In dieser Untersuchung wurden zunächst durch vergleichende Studien die in bestimmten Zeiträumen an Fallbeispielen ergriffenen Maßnahmen und ihre Auswirkungen auf natürliche Ökosysteme untersucht. Dann ging es um die Erläuterung von Maßnahmen zur nachhaltigen Entwicklung, die von Architekten bei der Gestaltung dieser Gebäude eingesetzt wurden. Anschließend werden die Ergebnisse in einer analytisch-logischen Weise präsentiert. Die Methode der Informationsbeschaffung war eine Bibliotheks- und Dokumentationsstudie. So werden in diesem Buch die Auswirkungen der bewerteten Fallstudien auf die Umwelt untersucht und auf der Grundlage der erhaltenen Ergebnisse die Kategorie der Entwurfskriterien für künftige Bauwerke und die zu ergreifenden Maßnahmen diskutiert. Schließlich werden praktische Vorschläge für die Gestaltung künftiger Gebäude unterbreitet, um die Umweltbelastung im Einklang mit den Zielen der nachhaltigen Entwicklung zu verringern.
