This book is part of the Culture Kids Series. The story features Niya, who explains to her class that her family has been attending an Historical Black College or University (HBCU) for several generations. These schools were created with Black people were not allowed to attend the same colleges and universities as White people. Niya shares her plans to attend the same HBCU that her family did and perform as a beautiful majorette with the band known as the greatest college band of all time. She also explains the great activities and traditions of the school, from the football game traditions, stepping and dancing to the Greek organizations of sororities and fraternities. The college is known for its schools of Nursing, Engineering and Business and its Law School. Niya looks forward to lifelong friendships she will establish at college and the special traditional graduation celebrations.
