Der Band bietet praxisorientiert erstmals einen umfassenden Überblick über die Arbeitsweisen und Erfahrungen der in der BRD seit 1986 tätigen 'Musikmobile' in der Kulturarbeit und Beispiele für weitere Kulturprojekte im Bereich der Populären Musik. 1986 wurde in Deutschland das erste 'Rockmobil' gestartet. Mit den Stilformen Populärer Musik die Sprache und das Denken Jugendlicher zu erreichen und über dieses Medium langfristige Projektzusammenhänge herzustellen, lautete die zentrale methodische Prämisse. Nach dem Modell dieses ersten Jugendmusikmobils sind seither von Berlin bis München annähernd 20 ähnliche Mobile entstanden, die die musikpädagogische Szene ergänzen und eigene jugendkulturelle Akzente setzen. Begleitend wird die mobile Kulturarbeit mit Populärer Musik kulturpädagogisch und in ihrer Entwicklung analysiert.
