El texto tiene dos intenciones, una histórica y otra crítica-proyectiva. Histórica, porque para criticar hay que conocer y para conocer hay que saber de la historicidad de un concepto. Crítica, porque, como investigadores nos corresponde la tarea de mirarnos a nosotros mismos, evaluar la tarea realizada, analizar los errores y logros conseguidos, para desde ahí, proyectarnos y proyectar nuevas líneas de acción investigativa.Luego de haber escrito, en el 2005 y 2006 sendos textos colectivos, y en el 2009, una historia del arte de la CMH, pensamos que era el momento de aventurarnos, también colectivamente, en la elaboración de otro documento que nos hiciera pensarnos. Éste es el resultado de esa mirada retrospectiva que cuatro investigadores de cinco países (Manuel Sérgio desde Portugal; Eugenia Trigo desde España-Colombia; Marta Genú desde Brasil y Sergio Toro desde Chile) se han atrevido a asumir.
