Os mosquitos, principais vectores de doenças como a dengue, o paludismo e a filariose, foram objeto de um estudo realizado entre maio de 2022 e novembro de 2023 na wilaya de Sétif (nordeste da Argélia). O objetivo era identificar a fauna de culicídeos e caraterizar ecologicamente os seus habitats larvares. Foram identificados quatro géneros a partir de 4098 larvas recolhidas em 21 locais de 13 estações: Culex (76,61%), Culiseta (16,42%), Anopheles (6,71%) e Uranotaenia (0,24%), num total de 12 espécies. Culex pipiens (69,42%) e Culiseta longiareolata (16,37%) foram as mais abundantes. A abundância depende das caraterísticas físicas dos locais de reprodução e dos factores climáticos. Os habitats naturais, nomeadamente os prados, as margens dos rios e os lagos, acolheram 70,79% das larvas. Culiseta longiareolata e Anopheles maculipennis dominaram as margens dos rios, enquanto Culex pipiens preferiu as lagoas.
