Este estudo foi realizado como pesquisa entomológica nos estados do Nilo Branco e Cartum, entre abril e julho de 2011. O estudo foi conduzido para investigar a fauna, abundância e distribuição de flebotomíneos nas duas áreas. Os flebotomíneos foram coletados usando armadilhas luminosas miniatura CDC e armadilhas de papel adesivo. Além disso, fêmeas de flebotomíneos Phlebotomus foram dissecadas para detectar o parasita Leishmania e determinar as taxas de paridade no estado do Nilo Branco. Foram registadas catorze espécies de flebotomíneos: seis flebotomíneos Phlebotomus e oito espécies Sergentomyia. Não foram detectados parasitas Leishmania nos flebotomíneos da área.
