Os sistemas submarinos de canais e diques são importantes, uma vez que são considerados o destino final da maior parte da areia fornecida pelos rios e deltas a eles associados. As correntes de turbidez que dão origem a estas características geomorfológicas são capazes de transportar, num único fluxo, tanta quantidade de sedimentos quanto o maior rio do mundo pode produzir ao longo de um ano inteiro! É provável que as características destas correntes de turbidez com deposição líquida determinem a arquitetura dos canais submarinos e dos seus cones de deposição associados. Este livro, através de modelação matemática, demonstra a influência da concentração do fluxo, da rugosidade do fundo marinho e das dimensões do desfiladeiro, entre outros fatores, na formação de canais submarinos, bem como as interações das correntes de turbidez. As simulações foram realizadas utilizando o sedimento Midland’s Valley 4D. Os resultados deste estudo podem ser reveladores na previsão e determinação da presença de areias adequadas para reservatórios, quando utilizados em conjunto com dados sísmicos e de poços.
