Pierwszym etapem tej książki jest przegląd bibliograficzny, który dotyczy takich tematów, jak: nowoczesne i postmodernistyczne podejście do mitu; wyjaśnienia, czym jest mit, jego funkcje i transdyscyplinarna wizja, którą mogą przyjąć szkoły. Badania bibliograficzne obejmują również analizę porównawczą mitów greckich i amazońskich. W tym porównaniu uniwersalny element mityczny, ogień, służy jako punkt odniesienia do analizy mitów, wykorzystując dwanaście kategorii jako oś podejścia. Drugi etap jest wynikiem obserwacji terenowej, przeprowadzonej w sposób bezpośredni, półintensywny i nieuczestniczący. Przez okres sześciu miesięcy w roku szkolnym 2005 w szkole państwowej sprawdzaliśmy, jak mity są traktowane w klasie, jak często wykorzystywane są mityczne narracje oraz jak uczniowie odbierają i rozumieją temat mitów. Badania bibliograficzne, podkreślające wartość edukacyjną mitów, kontrastowały z rzeczywistością, w której nie są one wykorzystywane w klasie. Miłej lektury!
