Vor dem Hintergrund fehlender Naturerfahrungen sowie der zunehmend digital geprägten Lebenswelt der Lernenden entwickelt Luise Knoblich ein didaktisches Verfahren mit Schwerpunkt Biodiversität für den Biologieunterricht an außerschulischen Lernorten unter Nutzung von Smartphones. Die praktische Umsetzung der aus dem zehnschrittigen Verfahren resultierenden biologisch basierten GPS-Touren („Biotracks') hat gezeigt, dass Biotracks positive Wirkungen auf die Umweltbildung, speziell die Umwelteinstellungen, das Umweltwissen und -handeln der Lernenden haben können. Durch das Biotrack-Verfahren werden neue Lehr- und Lernmethoden erweitert. Weitere Kennzeichen sind die breite Anwendbarkeit, der Beitrag zur Forschung sowie die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit.
