La migrazione è un processo continuo. È un ostacolo allo sviluppo sociale ed economico di qualsiasi Paese a livello globale, dove i Paesi sottosviluppati sono sottosviluppati e i Paesi sviluppati diventano sempre più ricchi. Il presente studio si concentra sui migranti provenienti dall’Odisha e diretti verso l’area degli slum di Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad. L’Odisha è uno Stato confinante ed economicamente arretrato rispetto all’Andhra Pradesh. Si è cercato di dare uno sguardo all’incidenza della migrazione per sei decenni (1961-2011) a partire dal censimento dell’India. Nell’ambito dei dati primari, è stata condotta un’indagine su tutte le famiglie Odiya (121) in uno slum appositamente selezionato della municipalità di Kapra, Hyderabad, con una popolazione mista di Odiya e di persone di lingua telugu. I dati secondari hanno rivelato che il motivo principale della migrazione verso l’Andhra Pradesh è il matrimonio, mentre la famiglia si è trasferita a Hyderabad e altri motivi. I dati primari hanno rivelato che la forza trainante dell’invio delle rimesse è stata influenzata dall’altruismo piuttosto che dal puro interesse personale e dall’interesse personale illuminato. Quanto più breve è la durata del soggiorno nel Paese di destinazione, tanto più alta è la possibilità di inviare rimesse.
