Este livro analisa a vida de mulheres com baixos rendimentos e gravemente isoladas que recorreram à microempresa como forma de fazer face à pobreza e garantir a sua subsistência. Distingue as empresas de pequena escala do empreendedorismo tradicional, destacando o seu papel na geração de rendimentos para mulheres deslocadas de diversas origens. Algumas destas mulheres receberam uma formação mínima, enquanto outras têm as suas empresas como actividades complementares ao seu emprego principal para combater a pobreza. Ao longo do seu percurso, enfrentam inúmeros obstáculos, nomeadamente várias formas de vulnerabilidade, exclusão e discriminação. Pela primeira vez, apresentam as suas experiências e ensinamentos. O principal objetivo deste livro é aprofundar a compreensão das microempresas não registadas como estratégia de sobrevivência utilizada pelas mulheres sudanesas deslocadas que enfrentam a pobreza, com base numa investigação qualitativa conduzida pelos autores.
