In a story set in post World War II rural Pennsylvania, a dusty country lane, named by 19th century soldiers returning from the Mexican War, meanders past the farm home of a young girl being raised in a strict religious faith. With rebellious behavior and a fascination with detective work, all to the dismay of her parents and church leaders, her virtue is put in jeopardy when she encounters murderers with a grand plan. Her life is threatened because she uses her discovery to save the country inn owned by her boyfriend’s family - a boyfriend she is forbidden to have.
