O meloxicam (4-hidroxi-2-metil-N-(5-metil-2-tiazolil)-2H-1,2-benzotiazina-3-carboxamida-1,1-dióxido) é um AINE utilizado no tratamento de doenças reumáticas, que se distingue pelo facto de ser bem tolerado pelo estômago nas doses necessárias para a terapia. As propriedades anti-inflamatórias e analgésicas do meloxicam tornam esta substância ativa muito interessante para uso na terapia da dor. O meloxicam atua como inibidor não seletivo da enzima ciclooxigenase (COX), inibindo tanto a ciclooxigenase-1 (COX-1) quanto a ciclooxigenase-2 (COX-2). Foi desenvolvido um método RP-HPLC isocrático rápido e específico para a determinação de cápsulas de Meloxicam utilizando um detetor UV/matriz de díodos. O método foi validado de acordo com as diretrizes da ICH e USP/NF. Portanto, este método pode ser útil para a análise de rotina de cápsulas de Meloxicam como medicamento a granel e forma farmacêutica.
