Cette étude s’intéresse aux métaphores inventées pour décrire la nature de l’université. Sur la base des résultats de recherche de MultiSearch et de JournalFinder, elle rassemble les métaphores qui ont prévalu dans le discours académique sur l’éducation au début des années 2000. Il indique que, parmi une liste de métaphores signalant le changement d’environnement de l’université après l’avènement du nouveau millénaire, certaines étaient particulièrement proéminentes. Il indique également que ces métaphores prépondérantes illustrent diverses perceptions des rôles pluriels de l’université moderne. Ainsi, l’étude suggère que l’utilisation fréquente de métaphores par le monde universitaire prône une culture de leadership à l’échelle du campus et une vie de négociations constantes sur les significations et les valeurs de l’enseignement supérieur dans la nouvelle ère. L’étude se termine par une discussion sur les limites des études actuelles et sur les orientations possibles des recherches futures.
