Nadużywanie alkoholu jest poważnym problemem społecznym i zdrowotnym. Uzależnienie od alkoholu (AD) jest fazą nadużywania alkoholu, w której osoba pijąca spożywa nadmierne ilości alkoholu i odczuwa ciągłą potrzebę jego spożywania. Metabolomika to dziedzina nauki, która może zapewnić nowatorską metodę diagnozowania AD przy użyciu czułej i specyficznej techniki, takiej jak jądrowy rezonans magnetyczny (NMR). W niniejszym badaniu wykazaliśmy, że zastosowana technika metabolomiki osocza i moczu z wykorzystaniem NMR umożliwiła identyfikację nowych biomarkerów w osoczu i moczu, które mogą być przydatne w diagnozowaniu AD w przyszłości.
