The second volume of Mental Health Issues of Child Maltreatment: Contemporary Strategies offers a well-rounded and comprehensive perspective on topics related to child abuse and neglect, including a focused look at intersectional populations at risk of maltreatment and how best to provide trauma-informed care. This text intends to do the following: -Define the problem of child maltreatment conceptually and numerically, using statistics that describe the state of maltreatment and the characteristics of those most affected by it -Identify causes and risk factors that appear to affect susceptibility to maltreatment, such as factors that increase a child’s risk of abuse or obstacles to delivering effective child protection services -Design interventions that are trauma-informed, sensitive, and developmentally targeted for children and their caregivers -Disseminate information about the evidence and effectiveness of these interventions to increase the profile for their usage in clinical practice -Educate students and future professionals in psychology, medicine, nursing, social work, and creative arts therapies to mitigate the effects of child maltreatment for future generations
