Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Technik ist seit Menschengedenken und in den verschiedensten Gesellschaften benutzt worden. Die Antizipation der Zukunft, das Fortschrittsdenken, die Industrialisierung, das Eindringen von technischen Vorrichtungen in alle Bereiche der Lebens- und Arbeitswelt des Menschen sowie die Thematisierung von realen und möglichen sozialen Veränderungen infolge des Technikeinsatzes in Kunst und Literatur sind jedoch „Errungenschaften“ der modernen westlichen Kultur. Dabei haben nach einer Einschätzung von SUVIN die Naturwissenschaften im 19. Jahrhundert die literarische Phantasie eingeholt und überflügelt. Genau in diese Epoche fällt jedoch die Geburtsstunde der Fortschrittsutopie und der modernen Science Fiction. Anhand der antizipatorischen Texte L’An 2440, rêve s’il en fut jamais (1771) von Louis-Sébastien MERCIER, Voyage en Icarie (1840) von Étienne CABET und Le Monde tel qu’il sera (1845) von Émile SOUVESTRE wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit fachübergreifend gezeigt, wie real stattfindende Veränderungen infolge einer Technisierung der menschlichen Lebenswelt in einem mit literarischen Mitteln konstruierten Wirklichkeitsbild, das in die Zukunft projiziert ist, reflektiert werden. Folgende Annahmen wurden dabei zugrundegelegt: „Technik wird von der Literatur der Moderne in ihren unterschiedlichen Bereichen zum Thema gemacht: theoretische Ansätze, Erfindungen und ihre Umsetzung in die Praxis, industrielle Produktion, die Person des Technikers und des Industriellen, die Auswirkungen auf Leben, Kultur, Wissenschaften und Medizin, die Verwendung als Metapher.“ Nach LENK „drückt sich in Einstellungen zum Umgang mit technischem Gerät, im unmittelbaren Verhalten bei der Anwendung von Geräten und Verfahren sowie in der Einstellung zur Technik, zu technischen ‚Sachen’ und Systemen sowie zum technischen Fortschritt besonders deutlich die soziale Verzahntheit des Technischen aus [...].“ Mit anderen Worten: Die sozialen Beziehungen des Menschen nehmen, je
