Pearl Harbor catapulted lawyer Tom Gallagher from the leafy suburban streets of Philadelphia to the deck of the destroyer USS Parris in the Pacifi c’s Solomons Islands. The Parris’s part in helping turn back the Japanese tide in the Pacifi c then takes Tom to the Philippines and fi nally to the Kamikaze fed maelstrom of Okinawa. He hopes to share the post war world with a woman concert pianist he has met while the Parris is in Wellington, New Zealand for repairs.
