Este estudo é uma tentativa de explorar a qualidade dos medicamentos genéricos em relação aos medicamentos de marca. Este estudo veio mais uma vez dissipar o mito de que 'só os medicamentos caros são mais eficazes' e realça a necessidade de todos os intervenientes promoverem a utilização de medicamentos genéricos na Índia, bem como noutros países. Concluímos que os produtos de marca e os seus homólogos, os produtos genéricos de marca, estavam em conformidade com as normas de qualidade legais estabelecidas ao abrigo da legislação indiana [Lei dos Medicamentos e Cosméticos, 1940 e regras, 1945]. Além disso, não se observou qualquer diferença na sua qualidade, independentemente do facto de terem preços diferentes e de as empresas produtoras adoptarem estratégias de marketing diferentes. Este estudo revelou ainda que a etiqueta de preço não tem qualquer influência na qualidade dos produtos, pelo que a crença geral de que os produtos de marca mais caros são de melhor qualidade não é verdadeira para este medicamento em particular. Por conseguinte, dizer que um medicamento mais barato é mais barato em termos de qualidade e vice-versa parece ser um equívoco.
