There are many points of intersection between media studies and the Christian faith. At present, the discussion centres primarily on the practical use of media by the churches and their stance on the matter. This work adopts a media studies perspective as its main focus. The media theories of Marshall McLuhan, Vilém Flusser and Siegfried Kracauer are thereby related to religious motifs and ways of thinking, resulting in a distinct ’theology’ specific to each author and, consequently, an expanded interpretation of the theories themselves. This is intended as an experiment to offer a new perspective not only on media theories but also on theology. The aim is to foster greater interdisciplinarity from which all those involved can benefit. What future role can media studies play for theology? Can theology be integrated more closely into media studies?
