Childhood plays a crucial role in shaping food choices and eating habits, which can influence adulthood attitudes and chronic disease risk. A good quality diet is essential for children’s health and well-being, especially unhealthy eating patterns that may lead to obesity. To design interventions targeting target groups with increased risk of unhealthy dietary habits, it is essential to evaluate children’s diet, analyze gaps between actual and recommended intake, and analyze determinants of diet. Existing diet quality scores are a complementary approach, but more prospective cohort studies are needed to assess diet quality in children and its impact on health.
