Maxillofacial prosthetics is a subspecialty of prosthodontics devoted to the rehabilitation of patients with defects or disabilities of the head and neck that are congenital, acquired, or developmental in origin. These defects may result from oncologic surgery, trauma, infection, or craniofacial anomalies, profoundly affecting mastication, speech, deglutition, vision, respiration, and psychosocial well-being. While microvascular free-flap reconstruction has advanced considerably, prosthetic rehabilitation remains indispensable when surgical closure is unfeasible, when residual functional deficits persist, or when aesthetic refinements are needed. Modern maxillofacial prosthetic practice integrates digital workflows, biocompatible polymers, osseointegrated implants, and interdisciplinary collaboration among surgeons, oncologists, speech-language pathologists, and anaplastologists, thereby optimizing functional and psychosocial outcomes.
