O microplasma está a tornar-se um tópico importante na comunidade do plasma. Os microplasmas compreendem as descargas de cátodo oco (MHCD), os microjactos e as descargas de barreira dieléctrica (DBD). Todos eles podem funcionar à pressão atmosférica e são plasmas de não-equilíbrio. Entre estes diferentes tipos de microdescargas, as MHCDs aparecem como uma configuração de dispositivo muito promissora para conduzir corrente DC ou AC através de diferentes gases. Neste reator em particular, o microplasma estável é confinado dentro de uma cavidade. Embora tenham sido propostas muitas configurações de dispositivos MHCD, ainda não foram apresentados sistemas integrados envolvendo MHCDs e microeletrónica. O objetivo deste trabalho publicado é propor diferentes tipos de microrreatores de silício fabricados por técnicas de microfabricação, caracterizá-los através de diagnósticos eléctricos e ópticos e testá-los em paralelo para o processamento de gás. Deste modo, pretende-se compreender melhor os fenómenos físicos relacionados com as matrizes de microdescargas fabricadas em silício.
