Il microplasma sta diventando un argomento importante nella comunità del plasma. I microplasmi comprendono le scariche a catodo cavo (MHCD), i microgetti e le scariche a barriera dielettrica (DBD). Tutti possono funzionare a pressione atmosferica e sono plasmi non di equilibrio. Tra questi diversi tipi di microscariche, le MHCD appaiono come una configurazione di dispositivo molto promettente per pilotare corrente continua o alternata attraverso diversi gas. In questo particolare reattore, il microplasma stabile è confinato all’interno di una cavità. Sebbene siano state proposte numerose configurazioni di dispositivi MHCD, non sono ancora stati presentati sistemi integrati che coinvolgano MHCD e microelettronica. L’obiettivo di questo lavoro pubblicato è quello di proporre diversi tipi di microreattori al silicio realizzati con tecniche di microfabbricazione, caratterizzarli mediante diagnostica elettrica e ottica e testarli in parallelo per il trattamento dei gas. In questo modo, si intende fornire una migliore comprensione dei fenomeni fisici legati alle matrici di microscariche realizzate in silicio.
