La publicación de este libro en el centenario del nacimiento de Mario Planet es un acto de homenaje, de justicia y de gratitud. No solo quienes tuvimos la suerte de ser sus alumnos, sino varias generaciones de periodistas de la Universidad de Chile llevan su sello. Fue un maestro que desde la academia y el ejercicio profesional innovó en el periodismo y profundizó su enseñanza con una visión de futuro que incorporó en las aulas la formación de comunicadores. La selección de textos sobre Chile permite cerrar la trayectoria periodística de Mario Planet, fugazmente interrumpida por el golpe de 1973 que lo obligó a un exilio en Argentina. Retornado a Chile se involucró con medios opositorescomo Análisis, al tiempo que escribía columnas en La Tercera. Suscomentarios políticos para Análisis dan cuenta también de su visión de futuro y son un ejemplo de la profundidad de su reflexión y dela maestría de su pluma bajo las difíciles condiciones de la dictadura. La segunda parte de este libro amplía la visión de Mario Planet hacia el hombre, el padre yel maestro. Allí se recogen las íntimas miradas de sus hijos Pilar y Mario, así como algunos escritos que aluden a episodios de su vida familiar y profesional, para cerrar con dos instancias que marcan su huella en la Universidad de Chile: los homenajes en el 50º aniversario de la Escuela de Periodismo en el año 2003 y en el centenario de su nacimiento en este año 2016…”. 10
