Les glandes endocrines ou sans canal sécrètent des hormones dans l’espace extracellulaire qui les entoure. Ces hormones pénètrent dans le système circulatoire et sont distribuées aux sites cibles. L’endocrinologie est l’étude des glandes ou des tissus non canalisés et de leurs produits hormonaux. On considère que les hormones sont synthétisées dans des organes endocriniens spécifiques et qu’elles sont ensuite sécrétées dans la circulation sanguine pour agir sur des sites cibles spécifiques situés à une certaine distance afin d’évoquer une réponse physiologique.
