Este manual para estudiantes representa 25 años de enseñanza en los talleres de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, y es fruto de las prácticas profesionales y docentes de diversos profesores. Comenzó como una serie de recomendaciones empíricas que los profesores del taller de tercer año hacían a sus alumnos para facilitarles el proceso de diseño y permitirles concentrarse en cuestiones menos triviales y más abstractas de la disciplina. Luego, este conjunto de recomendaciones se convirtió en una charla semestral y, más adelante, en un primer borrador del presente manual, el que ha sido informalmente reproducido y distribuido por años entre el alumnado.Los textos originales datan de la década de 1990 y son obra de Luis Eduardo Bresciani Prieto, Sebastián Gray y Dino Bozzi; las subsecuentes revisiones y contribuciones son obra de Francisco Vergara Dávila, Sebastián Gray y Camilo Meneses. Es motivo de alegría para los autores lograr la edición formal de este manual después de tantos años de existencia clandestina, y por ello estamos seguros de que resultará interesante y útil tanto para estudiantes y profesores de arquitectura en todo Chile, como para todos aquellos involucrados en el arte del bien proyectar y del bien construir.’
