SPANISH (text in English follows): Los zapatos del inmigrante y otros escritos es un libro que compendia más de una década de trabajo periodístico sobre el tema de la inmigración en los Estados Unidos. Esta obra presenta las diferentes facetas de la vida de inmigrantes latinoamericanos que van desde el empleo, la educación, la economía, el lenguaje y la discriminación, así como otros asuntos sociales que afectan de una manera u otra las experiencias de millones de personas que dejaron sus países de origen para tratar de mejorar su calidad de vida. A pesar de que la mayoría de inmigrantes llegan a Estados Unidos con los mejores propósitos, en Los zapatos del inmigrante y otros escritos se comprueba que muchos de ellos se enredan en situaciones que representan exactamente lo opuesto de lo que se imaginaron al emigrar. Su autor, Eduardo Barraza, periodista y fotógrafo por más de dos décadas, analiza los casos de los inmigrantes indocumentados presos, los jornaleros que esperan trabajo en las calles, un adolescente asesinado por la policía, un indigente que llega a ser gran pintor, y otros más que revelan no necesariamente 'el sueño americano' sino la realidad de la experiencia inmigrante. El libro incluye fotografías que muestran diversos aspectos de inmigrantes en los Estados Unidos en el contexto de la frontera México-Estados Unidos. ENGLISH: Los zapatos del inmigrante y otros escritos (The shoes of the immigrant and other writings) is a book written in Spanish that summarizes more than a decade of journalistic work on the topic of immigration in the United States. The book presents different aspects of the life of immigrants that include employment, education, economy, language and discrimination, among other social issues that affect in one way or the other the experiences of millions of people who left their countries of origin to try to improve the quality of their lives. In spite that the vast majority of immigrants arrive to the U.S. with the best intentions, this book proves that many of them get tangled in situations that represent the exact opposite of what they imagined when they migrated. Author Eduardo Barraza, a journalist and photographer for more than two decades, analyzes the cases of jailed undocumented immigrants, day laborers waiting for work on the streets, a teenager killed by police, a homeless immigrant who becomes a great artist, and others that reveal not necessarily the 'American Dream' but the reality of the immigrant experience. The book includes photographs that show diverse aspects of immigrants in the United States in the context of the U.S.-Mexico border.
