L’insieme di lenti attraverso cui osserviamo la conoscenza umana non possiede una proprietà definitiva che consenta una chiara separazione tra ciò che consideriamo 'fatti' e ciò che giudichiamo essere i 'valori' che ne derivano. Questo è il punto centrale di questo lavoro. Tuttavia, osservando l’evoluzione storica dell’approccio scientifico, possiamo notare il fenomeno inverso: la tendenza ad allontanare i fatti dai valori, creando un abisso insormontabile - una dicotomia - tra osservazioni puramente fattuali e giudizi di valore. La posizione dei positivisti logici, ad esempio, è sempre stata quella di tracciare una linea di demarcazione netta tra proposizioni fattuali e postulati valutativi. Tale atteggiamento implica la necessaria scomposizione dei predicati che utilizziamo per descrivere ogni osservazione umana sensibile e rilevante. Partendo da queste discussioni, il presente lavoro affronta il tema della dicotomia fatto-valore sulla base del pensiero di Putnam e Sen, indicando le possibili conseguenze generate dagli argomenti sollevati alla percezione filosofica delle scienze politiche e alle nozioni di ragione applicabili alle questioni normative.
