“Liliom” is play by Hungarian dramatist Ferenc Molnár, first performed in 1909. The play is set in Budapest, Hungary, and in a fictional waiting area just outside of Heaven. Liliom is a cocky carousel worker who falls in love with Julie, a maid. However, when they both lose their jobs, their relationship is tested to the limit. Ferenc Molnár (1878 – 1952) was a Hungarian-born playwright and novelist who adopted American citizenship to escape persecution during World War II. He is most famous for his story of two rival gangs, “The Paul Street Boys”. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete the original text and artwork.
